Wild Horse Freedom Federation maintains THE TRUTH, to share BLM Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) documents with the public.
THE TRUTH #1 – BLM’s Marketing Specialist, Sally Spencer, offered to sell 10,000 wild horses to someone in Canada, and also suggested changing language on the Bill of Sale to facilitate this sale to slaughter. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #2 – Equine Welfare Alliance and Wild Horse Freedom Federation investigation: the paper trail of wild horses to slaughter – from authorization for sale by BLM’s Wild Horse & Burro Program Division Chief, Dean Bolstad to kill buyer Tom Davis, to kill buyer Dennis Chavez, then to Mexico for slaughter. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #3 – The timeline of kill buyer Tom Davis, who bought almost 1,800 wild horses & burros from the BLM, including BLM emails about him. See timeline compiled from FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #4 – BLM’s Supervisory Marketing Specialist, Sally Spencer, signed off on TWO Bills of Sales for 214 horses, AFTER receiving an “Early Alert” email informing her (and other Washington DC office BLM/DoI officials) that Tom Davis was suspected of selling wild horses to slaughter in Mexico. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #5 – Kill buyer Tom Davis admitted to DoI OIG investigatiors that he knew wild horses went to “kill plants” (slaughter). See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #6 – Kill Buyer Tom Davis paid the BLM only $17,940 for 1,794 wild horses & burros, but the BLM paid $145,704.60 to ship these animals to Davis. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #7 – The BLM considered sending 2,000 wild horses to Russia to be used as prey for Siberian tigers and Amur leopards in a “pilot program.” See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #8 – The BLM’s own records indicate its plans for sterilizations and non-reproducing herds for wild horses & burros could be challenged by law. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #9 – Why did the BLM’s Palomino Valley wild horse facility (or, the BLM, for that matter) spend taxpayer money to have CALVES rendered at Reno Rendering? See FOIA document HERE.
THE TRUTH #10 – BLM Long Term Holding Contractor for Hickory (Jason Jacobs of Jacobs Ranch) weaned 209 foals after being instructed by the BLM NOT to wean the foals, and 28 foals died within a month. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #11 – The BLM authorized the adoption of a wild horse to a woman who was later charged with animal cruelty. Although the wild horse survived, the fact that this horse was subjected to animal cruelty illustrates what happens when the BLM fails to do adequate, if any, compliance checks. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #12 – The BLM has opened Pandora’s Box to sell wild horses & burros overseas: The BLM sold 21 wild horses to American Mustang Germany in March, 2017. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #13 – FOIA documents reveal more proof of BLM’s lack of oversight of record keeping for wild horse long term holding facilities. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #14 – FOIA documents include a “Fact Sheet on Long Term Holding Contracts” that was sent to wild horse long term holding contractors. See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #15 – FOIA documents include a report by BLM’s Lili Thomas on problems with wild horse long term holding facility contracts and a “management crisis for 33,000 wild horses in long term pastures.” See FOIA documents HERE.
THE TRUTH #16 – FOIA documents reveal that Dave Duquette, employed by pro-horse slaughter organization Protect the Harvest, and 2 others, bought the 12 wild mares from the BLM that were spayed and sold in the “First Annual Wild Spayed Filly Futurity.” See FOIA documents HERE.
